Area 14, which opened in May 2007, was the first significant passenger facility delivered by the Transforming Dublin Airport Programme. A former basement storage space, Area 14 was designed specifically to provide additional check-in space to alleviate the congested departures floor in Terminal One during peak travel periods. Passengers, once checked-in, are delivered to the passenger security area on the departures floor by dedicated stairs, lifts and escalators. The Area has 25 check-in desks, numerous self-service kiosks and is capable of handling up to four million passengers per year. Area 14’s lighting features play a key role in its sleek, modern look and feel. The unique ceiling disc lighting system can, at the flick of a switch, provide different lighting effects and an element of fun to the space. Area 14 is likely to be used as an overflow facility or to cater for special projects when T2 provides the permanent additional check-in space required by Dublin Airport from November 2010. |
