The roof glass for the €55 million Terminal One Extension (T1X) is now en route from the factory in Germany to Dublin Airport.
The special fritted glass for the T1X, which shows clouds on a blue sky, is being made at the Flachglas plant in Wernberg near Munich in Bavaria. Members of the T1X team visited the plant recently to inspect the manufacturing process and to check on production of the Dublin Airport order.
Four-fifths of the glass for the exterior of the T1X has now been successfully completed by the German firm, which employs about 650 people.
To produce the required design effect on the glass, each piece of glass first undergoes a digital printing process. It is then baked and laminated to increase the strength and thermal properties of the glazing.
The new Terminal One Extension is designed to improve the passenger journey to Piers A and D by adding more circulation space, as well as new airside retail and catering outlets. The T1X will be fully complete by next summer.
The picture (above) shows some of the roof glass for the T1 extension being loaded onto a truck at the Flachglas plant in Bavaria.
