Transforming Dublin Airport

Work To Start On Reservoir Roof

Dublin Airport's New Reservoir

The first section of the new reservoir to serve the expanded Dublin Airport will be roofed next week.

The 14.5 million litre reservoir is being built in two sections on a greenfield site near SR Technics Hangar 6 on Castlemoate Road within the Dublin Airport campus. Excavation work for the new reservoir started in early November and construction activity at the site is now well advanced.

A large flat concrete roof will be placed over the first section next Friday, May 23. An estimated 400 cubic metres of concrete will be transported to the site in sixty trucks and will be poured into position. A special membrane will then be placed over the roof to prevent external water getting in and mixing with the potable water supply inside the new reservoir.

Dublin Airport's new reservoir is scheduled to be in operation by October. It will replace the existing airport reservoir which is located near the church. About 40 workers are employed on the project, which is being carried out by John Paul Construction. Around 40 other personnel were involved at the design stage.
