Transforming Dublin Airport

End of large-scale construction activity in T2

One of the most important milestones in the development of T2 was achieved this week when large-scale construction activity came to an end, as planned, throughout most of the terminal building and Pier E.

This successful outcome enabled the DAA's Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) team to transfer its operations into T2 and to move throughout the new building without having to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) gear, as required on construction sites.

The ability to operate relatively unhindered throughout T2 will enable the ORAT team to prepare for familiarisation visits for the employees of DAA and other organisations that are likely to operate from T2. These visits will commence in mid-May.

A huge effort was made over the May bank holiday weekend by DAA's Asset Management and Development team and by all the remaining contractors on T2, to ensure the PPE-free deadline was met. Their efforts also ensure that key features and services required by the ORAT team such as offices, toilets, escalators, lifts and emergency exits, were fully cleaned and operational.

Construction activity will continue in certain specified areas within T2 and adjacent to it, through the summer and early autumn. This locations, which will be screened from public access, will include the kerbs and forecourts to the front of the new building; the fit-out of the retail and catering units in the International Departures Lounge and the installation of key fire, safety and access systems.
