The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has completed the decentralisation of the Dublin Airport boiler house facility as part of a major utilities upgrade programme.
The old boiler house, which was located in the short-term surface car park, was built in 1962 and had reached the end of its design life.
It has now been replaced with three smaller boiler houses located at the Aer Lingus head office building, the TASC building and Hangar One. The new boiler houses provide hot water to run the heating systems.
Replacing the old central boiler house improves overall energy efficiency at Dublin Airport, as the three new systems are significantly more environmentally friendly than the old central boiler house.
The project, which was carried out by Lynskey Engineering under the supervision of the DAA, involved the installation of two new packaged boiler houses, and one new traditional boiler house.
The packaged boiler houses, which were installed at the Aer Lingus head office and the TASC building, were assembled offsite and then lifted by crane into position. The boiler house project started onsite in January and was completed last month.
